Danbury is inland humidity plus mixed housing, not a Sound-side estate story. Downtown and Germantown mill-era two-families share party walls; a leak on one side can stain the next dining room. Beaver Brook and Great Plain ranches and capes add finished cellars and a sump that ran after a wet week. Lots toward Candlewood sit on a higher water table; a “dried” basement still smells in August. Downtown conversions add tight baths and leftover construction moisture. Finished cellars often still have carpet pad. Remediation does not legalize a cellar bedroom. Say two-family / ranch / cellar and which part of town on the form.
Ask a local job for: a written scope, the water source named and stopped, containment, removal of wet drywall/pad/insulation in bags, and a look after the work by someone who did not do the tear-out.
